 In a Simple language, CDN means "Speading the content over many servers, and distributing it, so that the content would be received by the people very fast, world wide". These servers are located worldwide and make your content easily reachable to the people. Thus your content is distributed and your site gets speeded up!.



When you do not use #CDN, only one server distributes your Website to different Computers. This creates a load on the particular server and this creates your site to load slow on that device. This is also called as Single Server Distribution. This is explained in the Image below.

But, when you use the CDN service, Your content get distributed among various servers and this creates a very fast User Experience. First, your content is spread over different servers in the world and these servers send that content to the user on the particular location. This creates a less pressure on a particular server and speeds up your site browsing. This is also called as Multiple Server Distribution. This is explained in the image below.

MAXCDN is the most popular service for the Content-Delivery-Network on the Internet. It is very easy-to-use service, but it costs. Yet for it's cost, It's service is very effective and more than it's cost. I've tested this service on different websites. This is very better than any other services. Really, if you wish to use any paid service, then use MAXCDN.

Here, I'm listing only one service, as I know about only one free CDN Service, named Incapsula.

INCAPSULA

Incapsula is a powerful CDN service available in both Free and Paid services, but it is more popular for its free service. But, you should have the control over the DNS settings of your domain provider and you could be able to manage the DNS settings of your website. Please be careful while doing the DNS changes, any mistake could create a large problem.

How to use Incapsula

  • Go to Incapsula.com and click on START YOUR FREE TRIAL. 
  • Now, you will see many plans and below their pricing.
  • You will see a free plan at the last. Click on START NOW below the Free Plan. This will be available in the COMPARE OUR PLANS table on that website.
  • Add your e-mail, password and name in the fields. Now you will sign up on that website.
  • After you sign up, Add your website there. Now they will show you two A-records and one CNAME record.
  • Now, go to your Domain Name System and DNS settings. Now go to A records and add the two IP's provided by Incapsula. Add the CNAME record. Update your Website.
  • Now, you will see a Security icon of Incapsula on your Website. As shown here.

  • After you see this, your website is running Incapsula perfectly.


Thus you can use Incapsula CDN service on your Website.

Why CDN?

CDN is a very effective service for the websites which show only Images and Videos to their users. CDN speeds up the site upto 87% and it is a great thing for any website owner to get a good user experience on their site. I would recommend you to use PAID CDN's rather than FREE CDN.
